Au Pairs

We are now able to offer clients a new service for sourcing Au Pairs.

Definition of an Au Pair

“Au Pair” is a French term meaning: “on equal terms”.

Au Pairs are single girls (occasionally boys) aged between 17 and 30 years old, who come from Europe to the UK to improve their English language skills and to experience a new culture.

Au Pairs live in with an English speaking family and are provided with full board and a salary (pocket money) in exchange for caring for the children and helping with light household chores.

In some cases, during their stay they will often use their spare time to improve their level of English. Au Pairs are often encouraged to attend a language course by their host families whilst living in the UK, as this helps to build up their social network.

NB Pocket money: Au Pairs can earn between £80 – £100 per week

Au Pair’s do not usually have formal childcare qualifications , but will have experience of babysitting, working in a playgroup or holiday club.

An Au Pair can be expected to work up to 10 hours day and on average a 45 hour week.

Costs for flights and language courses are usually paid for by the Au Pair. However, a family may wish to show their appreciation to the Au pair and pay at least half the return journey.
